San Marcos couldn’t recover from its mistakes and dropped a 3-2 girls soccer match to Lompoc in a Channel League game at Warkentin Stadium on Thursday.
The Royals fell behind 2-0 in the first half, and Lompoc made it 3-0 early in the second half by capitalizing on a missed clearance in the 18-yard box.
San Marcos got on the board in the 70th minute when center back Julie Alaniz fed striker Sofia Orozco for the goal. Five minutes later, Lily Bienstock took a pass from Kate Sheldon and drilled a shot into the top right corner of the goal to make it 3-2.
“We had the tempo for the rest of the game but didn’t have enough time to score again,” said coach Jennifer Sotelo. “I’m proud of the way we came back and never gave up. We have lots to work on and we need to start stronger.”
She said that Orozco was the player of the game.
San Marcos (0-1 in league) plays host to Santa Barbara on Saturday at 3 p.m.
