San Marcos overcame a rough first half and defeated Trinity Classical, 39-31, to win a pool-play game at the Fillmore Girls Basketball Tournament on Thursday.
The Royals held Trinity Classical to six points in the second half.
“The girls knew they were not playing to their potential,” coach Aaron Solis said. “We talked at halftime about it was the coach’s responsibility to put the players in the right spots, but it’s the players’ responsibility to execute, and they knew they were not executing on the defensive end. I was proud of the players for turning it around.”
Lilly Poehler led the Royals with 14 points and Ariel Plourde contributed 10.
