Kiani Rojas and Ashley Day each scored nine points and four other San Marcos players had six points in a 54-37 girls basketball win over Santa Paula in the third-place game at the Fillmore Tournament.

“I really enjoyed the balanced scoring,” said coach Aaron Solis.

The Royals outscored the Cardinals 11-2 in the third quarter to break the game open.

“We still have some things to work on, but I was very happy with our energy and hustle after a disappointing game yesterday,” said Solis. “I was proud of the girls on how they battled all four games in this tourney. Ashley was well deserved to get All-Tourney. She may not lead us in scoring, but her rebounding and defensive presence really helps to lead this team.”

San Marcos improves to 5-1.
