
Shams Jahangir-Arshad finished as the second overall individual player, and San Marcos placed fourth as a team at the Coyote Invitational boys golf tournament at the Calabasas Country Club on Monday.
The Royals’ four lowest scores out of five totaled 314, nine strokes behind team-champion La Cañada (305). Hart (307) was second and Calabasas (308) third.
The tournament drew 20 teams and 100 players.
Jahangir-Aarshad shot a 1-over par 73 to lead San Marcos. Jeffrey Forster fired a 76 and tied for seventh place, Leo Metzger scored an 81 and Brody Ricci an 84.
“It was the first time playing the course for all of our boys, but I was proud of the way they handled themselves and was excited for both Shams and Jeff to have top-10 finishes,” said coach Jeff Ashton.
The Royals are back in action Wednesday against Valencia.
CARPINTERIA TENNIS WINS
Carpinteria defeated Malibu, 15-3, in a Citrus Coast League match.
The Warriors were led in doubles by Ian Thomas/Zaiden Juarez, who went 3-0, including a tiebreak win over Malibu’s No. 1 team. Mathew Endow went 2-0 with Lucas Martin and 1-0 with Nolan Martin, and Troy Zimmerman/Ben Persoon went 2-1.
In singles Austin and Max Stone rolled to 3-0 wins.
“We really seemed to reset our focus and just had a good time playing tennis against a quality and nice opponent,” said coach Charles Bryant. “The win was also nice for our confidence moving forward and just to get back on track a bit.”
Carpinteria is 5-4 overall and 1-1 in league
SANTA YNEZ TENNIS ROLLS
Luke Lockhart won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, helping Santa Ynez top Orcutt Academy, 8-1, in a non-league boys tennis match.
Micah Thompson was solid at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.
The Pirates are 8-0 on the season. They play at San Marcos in a Channel League match on Tuesday.
