Kip Glazer is leaving San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara after serving as principal for less than three years.

Glazer, 50, was hired to replace embattled former Principal Ed Behrens, who was demoted to a junior high school teaching position last year.

“Dr. Glazer’s energy is infectious and is a great loss for not just San Marcos, but also the entire district,” Superintendent Hilda Maldonado said. “Having said that, I do know that this is a great opportunity for Dr. Glazer, both personally and professionally, and we always want to support our staff to do what is best for them. We thank her for her dedication to San Marcos, and wish her the best of luck moving forward.”

Glazer will become the principal at Mountain View High School in the Bay Area. Her last day at San Marcos will be June 30.

“I will be forever grateful for my time serving the Royals community and hope that what we’ve built together will aid in the school continuing to take innovative steps forward,” Glazer said in a statement to the school.

Glazer first lived with a host family when she came to Santa Barbara from South Korea in 1993, and attended EF International School to learn English.

The Santa Barbara Unified School District is planning to recruit immediately for the position.

Meanwhile, the Solvang School District issued a press release Friday stating that it is poised to hire a new superintendent, Sierra Loughridge, currently the executive director of curriculum and instruction at the Santa Barbara Unified School District. Loughridge was also principal at Washington Elementary in Santa Barbara.

Loughridge graduated from UCSB, earned a master’s degree from Pace University in New York and a master’s degree in education administration from California State University, Northridge.

She will begin serving the Solvang district on July 1, according to the news release.
