Marilyn Hantgin, San Marcos’ highly successful track & field coach, will take on the position of boys and girls cross country coach at the school, Athletic Director Abe Jahadhmy announced,
Hantgin replaces Lawrence Stehmeier who stepped down after 19 seasons at the helm.
She’ll be working with many of the same athletes she has on the track team.
“Cross country is one of our strongest programs here at San Marcos and Coach Stehmeier is a big reason why it has been so successful,” said Hantgin. “I hope to continue the great traditions Lawrence has created. Cross country athletes are some of the most hardworking student/athletes on campus. I’m looking forward to this new coaching challenge.”
Jahadhmy is pleased Hantgin will be taking over the program. She’s coached the track & field teams to several Channel League titles since taking over in 2008 and has had several of her athletes win CIF medals.
“Marilyn has a great deal of expertise, and athletes love being part of any program she is involved in,” he said.
She has also assisted with the San Marcos girls volleyball program.
“We are thrilled to have Ms. Hangtin,” said Principal Kip Glazer. “She has already been an amazing coach who built a successful program for our track and field athletes, and I am confident that she will continue that for our cross country athletes.”
