San Marcos survived a marathon first set and went on to sweep host Ventura in a Channel League girls volleyball match on Tuesday.
The Royals recoverd from some early errors and pulled out a 30-28 first-set win and followed with 25-11, 25-16 victories to improve to 8-2 in league play.
“After a really rough start, we were able to wake up and start to play after a ton of early errors in game 1,” said coach Dwayne Hauschild. “Once the girls got more focused, we started hitting our service targets and passing much better in game two.
“In game three, we were happy to see the girls maintain focus and get the job done to finish with a sweep.”
Mia Miller provided great passing and defense in the second and third games, Hauschild said.
“Eloise McGibben found her groove late in game one and never took her foot off the gas, recording nine kills and fuve aces,” he said.
Kaylin Cooney provided a spark off the bench with nine kills and only one hitting error Riley Green had a balanced night with nine kills and 12 digs.
The Royals host Pacifica on Thursday
