San Marcos finished the South Torrance Soccer Tournament with two wins on Monday to take fifth place with a 4-1 record.
The Royals beat Segerstrom of Santa Ana, 1-0, and defeated Peninsula, 3-1.
Sergio Diaz rose above a group of players and headed in a corner kick from Miguel Mondragon for the game-winning goal aainst Segerstrom.
San Marcos finished two Mondragon corner kicks in the first half and Mondragon scored on a corner kick in the second half for the win over Peninsula.
Levi Sheffy scored the first goal and Juan Escobar put away the second after a feed from AJ Ranii. Escobar pushed the ball past the center back, rounded the goalkeeper and finished into the left corner of the goal.
Peninsula scored on an own goal.
“Mondragon was deservedly named to the all tournament team,” coach Paul McLean said. “Miguel is undoubtedly one of our best players. His timing is fantastic. He is always in the right position and anticipates what will happen next. He is important to us on both ends of the field and works to lead by example on the field. He deserves to be recognized in this way.”
