San Marcos suffered a 9-0 loss against visiting Newbury Park in the Royals’ season and home opener on Tuesday.
The Royals were held to one hit by freshman Gigi Gritt, who also pitched the last three innings.
“She forced Newbury Park to hit several ground balls, unfortunately we misplayed five of them which led to six unearned runs, said San Marcos coach Jeff Swann.
Allie Fryklund started for San Marcos and struck out four while allowing five hits and one earned run in four innings.
The Royals are back home Thursday against Santa Paula and host Santa Ynez in a Channel League game on Friday.
