Julian Hicks led the San Marcos boys with 16 points in a 60-44 Channel League win over Lompoc Tuesday.

Jaden Reyes and Aidan Mandel added 14 points apiece for the Royals who lead the league with a 6-1 record.

“Tough game all way through,” San Marcos coach Jelani Hicks said. “They led most of the first half and going into the second half. Credit to their players and coach Walter for having them prepared. They played with high intensity and competitive.”

“Great team win,” Hicks said. “They did a good job making hard for our top scorers to score, but we had a group of step up!

“Wyatt Miller and Andre McCullough had crucial minutes in the 4th quarter to help put it away.”

Diego Torres led Santa Ynez with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Hazen Gardner added eight points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal, and Caleb Cassidy had eight points, eight rebounds, an assist and a block.

“Congratulations to San Marcos on the win tonight,” Santa Ynez coach TJ Tyler said. “Very tough loss for us tonight! Great defensive intensity game from both teams. It was entire team effort tonight; I love my team and coaching staff very proud of we are moving in the right direction!”
