Alex Chow didn’t lose a game at No. 1 singles for San Marcos and the Royals went 9-0 in doubles ses in a 17-1 win over Santa Ynez in a Channel League boys tennis opener on Tuesday.

San Marcos improve to 4-0 overall with some of its regulars.

“We’ve had injury and illness, so today was a big statement for our guys to pull together and play well,” said coach Jarrod Bradley.

“Alex had a great approach today. He served aggressively and looked to end points early by coming to the net or putting away short balls. He was efficient and tactical today.”

Freshman Charlie Friedman swept his sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 in his first match playing singles.

“Charlie attacked the net well today and showed the versatility of his game. He plays the game the right way by playing high percentage shots,” said Bradley.
