Cade McLean dominated in the middle, powering San Marcos to a 25-10, 25-12, 25-9 sweep over Santa Ynez in a Channel League boys volleyball opener on Tuesday at the Thunderhut.

McLean had 11 kills, four blocks and served five aces.

“Cade is one of our captains and led our team last year as a sophomore in kill percentages” He continues to work hard and get better,” said San Marcos coach Roger Kuntz.

The coach was pleased with the setting of Ryan Feller, who had 17 assists.

“Ryan is a senior captain this year and is our most improved player,” said Kuntz.

Toby Still added six assists to go with four kills.

Junior Josh Willbanks is healthy again and moved into a starting outside hitting role, Kuntz noted. “He was also very effective at the service line.”

The Royals travel to Valencia on Thursday to play a non-league match.
