San Marcos won a share of the Channel League boys basketball title with a 54-26 victory over Cabrillo on Thursday night,

The Royals (17-9) finished 9-1 in league and tied with Santa Barbara High.

A coin-flip decided which team would be the league’s No. 1 representative in the CIF-SS playoffs and Santa Barbara won the flip. Both teams are in the 2A Division.

Tony Njia had 17 points and Thomas Kinzler added 11 to pace the offense.

But it was the defense that led the charge for the Royals. 

“We came out strong on the defensive end, holding them scoreless in the first quarter and allowing four points in the first half,” said San Marcos coach Jelani Hicks.

San Marcos honored its senior players. They are Will Pace, Tommy Condon, Tony Njia, Max Kadlec,  Jeroe Bidlow, Gideon Van Bogelen, Quentin Oas and Ben Partee.
