The San Marcos wrestling team took a step closer to a repeat Channel League dual meet championship on Wednesday night by routing Santa Barbara High, 59-15, at the Thunderhut.

“My boys are at whole another level right now, thanks to them competing at top tournaments which is obviously paying of,” said coach Daniel Sifuentes. “This team is special, probably the most well-balanced team I’ve ever had. We cannot wait to become back-to-back champions. We are so close.”

Jacob Dominguez got the Royals going with a pin to start the match.

Braydon Severson followed with a victory by technical fall.

“He is a great example of learning from failure to become a better wrestler,” said Sifuentes

Levi Cooper, Jesus Pelet, Juan Torres and Ambrose Partee all recorded pins for the Royals.

Sifuentes said Torres, the team captain, is being recruited by several schools.

“He is an amzing example of what a great captain does by leading by example,” said the coach.

On Partee: “I am so proud of Ambrose for his amazing development and his sacrifice to become better,” said Sifuentes. “He is such a beast. I love everything about him and his mindset. He is only going to get better every day from here on out.”

San Marcos will host Dos Pueblos on Friday.
