The Santa Barbara High baseball team suffered a 10-1 loss at Crespi on Tuesday in the Easton Tournament.

Coach Steve Schuck said the Dons turned in a “lackluster performance.

“We did not compete in the box or on the mound. We gave at-bats away because our intent was poor. We had a chance midway thru to get to within one but it did not go our way,” said the coach.

He said praised the hustle of Dane Dawson

“It’s was nice to see Dane Dawson laying out and giving us a hard 90 being down nine. That is playing the game hard! That’s all we ask, play the game hard! Dane’s a senior and he knows the expectation. Hopefully some of the younger guys took notice.”

Zeke Adderley was 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and a HBP. He also stole two bases.

Rio Mesa 6, Dos Pueblos 4

A late rally by the host Chargers fell short against a Channel League opponent in the Easton Tournament game.

Down 6-1, DP scored one run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh.

Jesse DiMaggio had two hits for the Chargers (1-1) and Ryder Kendall, Dylan Gesswein and Luke Varisio drove in runs.

Santa Ynez 16, Santa Maria 6

Adam Stephens and Tate Minus combined for 12 strikeouts, and Bradley Lood drove in five runs for the Pirates in the season-opener at Santa Maria.

Minus had three hits, Stephens scored three runs and freshman Deagan Johnson got a hit in his varsity debut.

“Opening day is always special,” said Santa Ynez coach Warren Dickey.
