A 56-year-old man has been identified as the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash on Monday night in Santa Maria.
Killed was Walter Darrell Rouse, a Santa Maria transient who originally lived in Paso Robles, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau.
Santa Maria Police officers and other emergency personnel responded at about 8:30 p.m. to the intersection of Betteravia Road and Oakley Avenue, where a male pedestrian had been struck and fatally injured, according to police Sgt. Jason Zickuhr.
The vehicle’s driver did not stop and was last seen traveling westbound on Betteravia Road, Zickuhr added.
The suspect vehicle was described only as a dark-colored sedan.
