Santa Ynez pulled out three three-set wins and defeated Santa Barbara High, 3-0, in a non-league girls beach volleyball match on Wednesday.

“The girls played aggressive, yet smart volleyball today,” said Santa Ynez coach Melissa Rogers. “They did a great job of being patient with the process and capitalizing on opportunities when available.”

At the No. 1 position, Jayda Henrey and Gianna Pecile defeated the Dons’ Shae Delany/Gracie Meinzer, 21-16, 15-21, 15-13 .  Kaki Allen and Sadie Lishman of the Pirates defeated Gwen Chenoweth/Stella Borgioli, 21-18, 16-21, 15-12 at the No. 2 spot.

In the threes position, Hannah Allen and Cailin Glover won 20-22, 21-19, 15-9 against Keenan Engebretson/Lexie Horton.

“Though it wasn’t the final outcome we’d hoped for, every match went to three and that shows how close the level of play was with every pair,” said Santa Barbara coach Kristin Hempy. “This was a good chance for our pairs to identify some areas of improvement and make adjustments before we get into league play. Santa Ynez is a well-coached and disciplined team and there was a lot of great volleyball played Wednesday on both sides.”
