Sophomore Will Dunaway and junior Miguel Alvarado scored goals and Connor Lambe and Cesar Gregorio combined on the shutout as the Santa Barbara High boys soccer team blanked Dos Pueblos, 2-0,  on Wednesday at San Marcos to complete an undefeated Channel League season.

The Dons finish 8-0-2 in league and are 19-1-4 overall, the lone loss coming against CIF-SS Division 1 top-ranked San Clemente in the final of the South Torrance Tournament back in December. They’ll learn their playoff draw in Division 1 on Saturday.

“Could not have asked for a better senior night and ending to our Channel League season,” said a pleased Santa Barbara coach Todd Heil, who has guided the Dons to 17 league titles in his 21 years at the helm. “After securing first place on Monday afternoon (at Cabrillo), our focus quickly turned to wanting to finish Channel League play undefeated, and we accomplished that against a very good Dos Pueblos side.”

Dunaway scored what would become the game winner in the 55th minute.  Miguel Alvarado added an insurance goal just six minutes later off a nice assist by Brandon Pacheco.

“Both sides played a fairly conservative first half,” said DP coach Matt York. “In the second half, Santa Barbara was able to take advantage of two throw-ins, which resulted in their goals.”

York gave his man of the match honor to center midfield CJ Rodriguez.

The Chargers, who finish 5-4-1 in league, will learn their Division 2 playoff draw on Saturday.
