Senior Reese Kelly recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, and Santa Barbara High’s girls volleyball team showed improvement in its play in a 25-10, 25-16, 25-13 loss against a strong Arroyo Grande team.

Junior Hayden Randolph played scrappy defense, picking up 15 digs. SCutophomore Campbell Brown provided a spark in her varsity debut. Charlotte Copp also played well off the bench.

“We got better tonight at cutting down our unforced errors, serving balls in court and showing maximum effort at all times, which was our main focus after our last match against Buena,” said Santa Barbara coach Ariana Garner. “We still have an abundant amount of work to do before league matches begin.

“Tonight we showed great progress in that we are learning from the mistakes we’ve made in past matches. They are only mistakes if you don’t learn from them and we proved tonight that we are capable of learning.”

The Dons (0-5) are back on the court Wednesday against Foothill Tech at home.
