Santa Barbara High picked up its defensive intensity in the second half and pulled away from a pesky Cabrillo, 55-39, in a Channel League boys basketball game in Lompoc on Tuesday.
The Dons got off to a slow start and trailed 13-7 in the first quarter.
“It took us 12 minutes to figure out their defense, but once we started getting some movement it opened things up for us,” coach Corey Adam said. “We outscored them 20-7 to take a seven point halftime lead. The defensive intensity really ratcheted up in the third quarter and we held them to one field goal and total of five points to take a 43-25 lead.”
Bryce Warrecker led the Dons (12-6, 3-0) with 23 points and nine rebounds, Jackson Gonzales had 10 points and Stephen Davis had nine points and seven assists.
