The Santa Barbara High girls basketball team put together a good performance in its second game of the season, beating Buena 58-31 on Saturday at Ventura College.
A pair of freshmen led the scoring for the Dons, with Elle Stone scoring 27 points and Lauren Robles knocking down 5 of 7 three-pointers for 15 points.
“(Lauren) as well as the rest of the team shot better shots than in our first game,” said coach Andrew Butcher. “We shot a lot of balanced, controlled, high-percentage shots.
“Sometimes it takes teams a lot of time to figure that out. So it was real encouraging that we were able to do that in the second game.”
The Dons shot 26 of 58 (44%) from the field, including 5-11 on three-pointers.
In addition to her 27 points, Stone had eight rebounds and seven steals.
Senior Caia Trimble turned a solid all-around game. She dished out 10 assists, scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds and had four steals.
“She really controlled things,” said Butcher.
The Dons outscored Buena 20-9 in the second quarter to take a 28-17 halftime lead. They expanded the lead to 43-26 after three quarters and outscored the Bulldogs 15-5 in the fourth.
Santa Barbara (1-1) plays Thursday against Piedmont of San Jose at the three-day Lompoc Tournament.
