Kasia Wolf redirected a cross from Carolina Esparaz for the only goal to give Santa Barbara High’s girls soccer team a 1-0 victory over Santa Ynez on Saturday at Peabody Stadium.
The victory improves the Dons’ record to 5-0-2 in Channel League going into Monday’s showdown at defending champion San Marcos.
Santa Barbara was coming off a 1-1 draw at Santa Ynez on Thursday.
“Today, we had some big players step up and show how much they wanted to win,” said coach Willie Sims. “Credit to Kasia Wolf, Tania Vallecillo, Karina Mendoza, Charlotte Caesar and Caitlin Hansen.
“We fought hard and played a little different than usual since we had players not available to us. We knew exactly what Santa Ynez was going to do, which is play the usual long ball which we defended well.
“For us, it was all about putting their back four under pressure, and our forwards Whitney Meister, Catlin Hansen and Olivia Gaspar did for us today.”
