Santa Barbara High’s girls soccer team overcame the distraction of a coaching change and battled Camarillo to a scoreless draw on Friday at San Marcos’ Warkentin Stadium.

Silas Fallstitch was removed as coach on Thursday and assistant Bridget Thomson was named as interim head coach.

Thomson was impressed with the team’s mindset going intto the game.

“We came together as a unified team and exhibited resiliency,” said Thomson. “We had some great opportunities at goal throughout the match. But what was most impressive was the connections and intensity we were able to maintain until the final whistle.”

Thomson praised the play of Hayden Randolph and Lily Purvis in the midfield and the defense of Lizzie Goss, Brianna Lopez, Kendall Dawson, Jianna Orozco and Liberty Tank.

“They were able to shut down some very strong and fast attackers from the Scorpions,” said Thomson.

Carolina Koceman and Lia Rodriguez combined for the shutout.
