Lompoc scored on a penalty kick early in the first half, and the Braves made it stand up for a 1-0 win over Santa Barbara High in a Channel League girls soccer game on Tuesday.
Amy Bommersbach converted the PK for Lompoc after forward Ayziah Simmons was taken down in the penalty area.
“Despite several looks at goal, particularly from set pieces created by freshman Kasia Wolf and long throw-ins from freshman Camilla Tapia-Arango, we just couldn’t quite find the back of the net,” said Santa Barbara coach Bridget Thomson.
Thomson used several players off the bench because of injuries in the starting lineup.
“Some players really stepped up and filled in some gaps for us,” she said.
Thomson praised captain Sophia Garofalo and Kendall Dawson for keeping the back line solid in a scoreless second half. Goalkeeper Lia Rodriguez had five saves in the second half.
