In a battle of boys soccer powers, Santa Barbara High fell to defending CIF-SS Division 2 champion Channel Islands, 1-0, on Thursday night in Oxnard.
The host Raiders, who have been elevated to Division 1, scored right before halftime and held off Santa Barbara in the second half.
“We played a really good first half,” Santa Barbara coach Ricardo Alcaraz said. “We had multiple opportunities. We did not capitalize on their mistakes and that kept the game 0-0.”
Alcaraz praised the play of defender Erick Hernandez.
Santa Barbara is 1-1.
