Hempy’s hiring is pending approval from the Santa Barbara Unified School District Board.

Hempy graduated from San Marcos in 2008 and attended Westmont College. She competed in track & field at Westmont and earned NAIA All-American honors in the javelin in 2012. She graduated from Westmont and later received her master’s degree and teaching credential from UCSB in 2015.

Her coaching experience includes serving as an assistant in girls volleyball and track at San Marcos from 2012-14. Since 2019, she has been teaching and coaching the girls volleyball team at Rise Kohyang High School in Los Angeles.

Hempy replaces Ariana Garner, who stepped down as the girls volleyball coach at SBHS after four seasons.
