Police closed down a street in downtown Santa Barbara Monday night after a “suspicious package” was found.

The 300 block of East Anapamu Street was blocked off with yellow police-line tape while emergency personnel investigated.

Santa Barbara police spokesman Anthony Wagner told Noozhawk there was “no immediate threat to the public.”

He added at about 9 p.m. that the scene remained active, and more information would be released once the incident was over.

Police assisted by the bomb squad reportedly were using a robot to examine the package and possibly remove it from the area.

At 9:40 p.m., Wagner reported that the situation had been resolved, and the package was determined not to be a threat.

Additional details were not immediately available.
