Santa Barbara County Public Health officials reported eight new positive cases of the novel coronavirus Thursday, and the second COVID-19-related death of June.
The person who died resided in Santa Maria, and no other details were immediately available. The county’s cumulative COVID-19 death toll rose to 452.
The death of a Santa Maria resident in the 50-69 age range was reported on June 1, and before that, no local COVID-19-related deaths had been reported since April 30.
Countywide active cases, of people who recently tested positive and are still considered infectious, dropped slightly on Thursday to 39.
Hospitalizations reportedly dropped to six people, including two patients in intensive care units.
Six of Thursday’s new cases were from the Santa Maria Valley, one was from the Lompoc Valley, and one was from the Santa Ynez Valley.
There have been 34,557 confirmed cases across the county since the pandemic began last March.
