Santa Barbara High and San Marcos both won two games Friday in the consolation round-robin competition of the Santa Barbara Invitational boys water polo tournament at San Marcos.
Dos Pueblo fell behind in its two games and lost them both.
Santa Barbara edged Mira Costa, 8-7, behind three goals each from Mateo Obando and Jerrad Burford. John Shafer had four assists and a goal and Landin Romo earned three exclusions to go with a goal and three steals.
Burford poured in eight goals and had a pair of steals in a 16-10 win over Monte Vista.
Shafer added three goals, Francisco Valladares scored two and Shane Davis had three assists and three steals.
Freshman Nikita Kolosov made 16 saves in the two wins, including several point-blank shots late in the game against Mira Costa.
The Dons (7-2) finish the tournament against Redlands East Valley at 11:15 and Garces Memorial at 3:35 at San Marcos.
San Marcos Wins Two
The Royals defeated Garces Memorial, 11-5, behind five goals from Nic Prentice and two from Charlie Franzen.
Against Redlands East Valley, senior goalie Matt Demboski made 14 saves, including a block of a penalty shot in the fourth period.
Emmett Haggerty and Prentice each scored two goals for the Royals (6-3).
San Marcos plays Monte Vista at 9:05 a.m. and Mira Costa at 1:25 p.m.
Dos Pueblos Drops Two
The Chargers came up short against Mira Costa, 15-12, and Monte Vista, 10-7.
DP pulled to within one goal (11-10) against Mira Costa but couldn’t overtake the Mustangs.
Brody Luke paced the offense with seven goals and Jonny Bish had two. Andrew Kline-Fernandez was able to draw three exclusions.
Against Monte Vista, the Chargers struggled with their shooting, making just 8 of 25 shots.
Goalie Reggie Robles kept the game close with his play. He finished with seven blocks and three steals. Jaden Moore scored four goals and Luke chipped in two and three assists.
Championship Round
JSerra, Brunswick, Loyola and Mater Dei advanced to the championship semifinals.
JSerra and Brunswick meet 8 a.m. followed by Mater Dei vs. Loyola at 9:05 at the Elings Aquatic Center at Dos Pueblos High.
The winners play for the title at 1:25 p.m. The third-place game is at 12:20 p.m.
On Friday, Brunswick defeated Arroyo Grande, 14-9, and upset Santa Margarita, 15-9.
Top-seeded JSerra rolled past Alta Loma (12-1) and Corona del Mar (18-3).
Loyola knocked off Dana Hills (17-4) and Huntington Beach 10-7. Mater Dei beat San Clemente, 11-3, and Laguna Beach, 11-7
