Santa Barbara High received the No. 2 seed in Division 8 of the CIF-SS football playoffs and will play its first-round game against Gahr at San Marcos High on Friday night.

Bishop Diego, Dos Pueblos and Lompoc are the other area teams to make the playoffs. Theyare all on the road for the first round.

Bishop Diego (5-5) which received a Division 5 at-large bid after finishing third in the Camino League behind Grace Brethren (Division 3 No. 2 seed) and Camarillo (Division 4 No. 2 seed), will open the playoffs at top-seeded Culver City (10-0, Ocean League champion). It’s the 10th straight playoff appearance for the Cardinals.

Culver City won the Division 7 title last year.

Also in Division 5, Lompoc, 7-3 and the Channel League runner-up, makes the long trek to Glendora (9-1), the No. 3 seed in the bracket.

Dos Pueblos (3-7), the third-place team in the Channel League, will travel to Crespi in Encino for its opener in Division 6. Crespi (6-4) tied for first in the Angelus League.

Santa Barbara, which won the outright Channel League title for the first time since 2001, faces a Gahr team that received one of the five at-large berths in Division 9.

The Gladiators played a strong schedule. Six of their losses came against CIF playoff teams, including division top seeds Paramount (Division 4) and Sunny Hills (Division 8).  They’ve lost two straight entering the playoffs, falling 51-0 to Warren (a Div. 6 playoff team) and 58-0 to Paramount. Their last win was a 31-15 decision over Lynwood.

Santa Barbara, which changes its nickname to the Golden Tornado during the football postseason, has not won a CIF playoff game in more than two decades. They lost 55-7 at Culver City last year.
