Santa Barbara High struggled to solve Mira Costa’s attack and suffered a 25-20, 25-16, 25-20 volleyball loss on Friday night in Torrance.
“Mira Costa’s volleyball IQ and overall offense was on point and somehow the Dons didn’t bring their ‘A’game,’ said coach Chad Arneson. “We’re 0-2 right now and have played two tough teams. We can’t get discouraged as a team. We have to keep our heads up and realize that it’s a long season and we have to learn how to compete and play with more passion.”
Sam Meister led the Dons with seven kills and Alex Rottman added five. Andrew Douglas and Dylan Foreman provided a little spark off the bench in game two and three.
Caden Westwick and Greg Tebbe ran the 6-2 offense in sets two and three.
The Dons open Channel Legue Thursday at Cabrillo and then travel to the Best of the West Tournament in San Diego next weekend.
“I’m hoping by this upcoming week the boys can get in a good rhythm and play to their potential,” said Arneson.
