Jerrad Burford came through with two of his seven goals and an assist in a tight fourth quarter to give Santa Barbara a 13-12 victory over Newbury Park Tuesday.
The Dons led 10-6 with four minutes to go in the third period, but a determined Newbury Park went on a 4-0 run in the next five minutes to tie the game at 10 early in the final period.
Santa Barbara goalie Jaxon Burford blocked a penalty shot with two minutes remaining to protect the one-goal lead.
Landin Romo added three goals for the Dons and Ryder Green scored twice.
The Dons improve to 5-1 on the season, and play Pacifica for the Channel League opener at Oxnard on Wednesday, September 7, at 3:15 p.m.
