A Santa Maria man has pleaded not guilty in Santa Barbara County Superior Court to a pair of felony charges after a shooting last week.
Alberto Fidel Reyes, 38, was arrested two days after an afternoon shooting Dec. 2 on the 600 block of North Palisade Drive.
The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. in a northeast Santa Maria neighborhood, where a man was shot multiple times.
The injured man was transported by medical helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
On Dec. 4, Santa Maria police took Reyes into custody without incident during a traffic stop on the 900 block of West Morrison Avenue.
Reyes made his first court appearance on Friday, entering a not-guilty plea.
In addition to attempted murder, Reyes also has been charged with assault with a semi-automatic firearm.
He also faces multiple sentencing enhancements, including for using a firearm, causing great bodily injury, and being a habitual criminal.
Reyes was back in court Monday, when attorneys agreed to return Dec. 16 for the setting of a preliminary hearing.
The defendant remains in the custody of the Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $2 million.
