Santa Maria police detectives have asked the public for help locating the man suspected of fatally shooting a Santa Maria resident at a taco restaurant on Sunday afternoon.

Juan Carlos Hernandez, 29, of Santa Maria should be considered armed and dangerous, Sgt. Alfredo Ruiz said Monday evening as police made a plea for help locating the suspect in the fatal shooting.

Hernandez is wanted in connection with the shooting that occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday outside 805 Tacos on the 1000 block of West Main Street.

Jose Medina Gonzalez, 33, also of Santa Maria, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Marian Regional Medical Center.

Police also referred to him as Jose Gonzalez Medina.

Detectives said that the Hernandez was last seen fleeing the scene of the shooting in a silver 2013 Honda Fit with a California license plate number of 6WTU141. 

A motive for the shooting had not been released as of Monday evening.

Anyone with information about Hernandez’s whereabouts should not approach the suspect but instead should call 9-1-1.
