A 30-year-old woman has been identified as the driver killed in a Feb. 1 head-on crash on a Santa Maria street.

At about 7 p.m. Feb. 1, Santa Maria police and fire personnel were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on East Alvin Avenue near Beth Court, Traffic Bureau Sgt. Michael McGehee said. 

Officers determined that the driver, a woman from Santa Maria, made an unsafe turning movement and was driving on the wrong side of the road when her vehicle crashed head-on into a truck

An American Medical Response ambulance took the woman, who had a major head injury, to Marian Regional Medical Center, where she was transported by medical helicopter to Santa  Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The driver, Deborah C. Sandoval, 30, of Santa Maria, died hours after the crash, according to police.

Funeral arrangements were under the care of Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory.
