Santa Ynez golf teams both suffered one-stroke defeats in season-opening matches against St. Joseph at the River Course at the Alisal on Wednesday.
In the boys match, St. Joseph pulled out a 448-449 win. The Knights prevailed in the nine-hole girls match, 265-266.
Santa Ynez golfers won medalist honors in each match. Callaway Winans was the low scorer for the boys with a 1-under par 71. Bridget Callaghan shot a 45 to lead the girls.
“I am very proud of how everyone handled their first-match nerves and braved the windy conditions at the River Course this afternoon,” said Santa Ynez coach Sara Ovadia. “Today was a great jumping-off point for our overlapping golf seasons for boys and girls.”
