Laguna Blanca ran into a skilled Santa Ynez girls soccer team and was blanked 5-0 in a non-league match on Thursday.
“From the outset, they controlled the match,” said Laguna coach Kevin Shertzer.
Despite the one-sided loss, Shertzer liked how his players battled.
“It was a testament to our desire, stamina, and determination as we faced a very good team,” he said. “I’ve said this before, but it was also true about tonight that these kinds of games can only help us improve. The fact that we kept our focus and kept fighting will serve us well when we play teams in our division.”
He praised the play of goalkeeper Natalie McCaffery and defenders Pisci Abrego and Jacqueline Richardson.
