
Santa Barbara High’s wrestling program had a big weekend as six wrestlers won individual titles at two tournaments.
At the girls’ Triton Scramble at Pacifica High, Sophia Slavich and Pepper Marks won titles. Marks, a reigning CIF-SS champion, pinned her way through the tournament. She pinned a Pacifica wrestler in the final.
In her title match, Slavich pinned her opponent from Harvard Westlake.
The boys team competed at the Ranger Team Duals at Nordhoff and went 3-2. The Dons defeated San Marcos, Channel Islands and Santa Paula and lost to Ventura (45-26) and Nordhoff (41-36).
“We gave up 18 points every match due to unfilled weight classes,” said first-year coach Mark Fidel.
Jose Escobar of the Dons was named the upper weight tournament MVP. He pinned four opponents on a 5-0 day.
Also winning titles were Niko Proft (152 pounds), Angel Parra (170) and Fox Knapp (195). Benicio Garcia Holland finished as a runner-up.
SANTA YNEZ GIRLS
Santa Ynez had four girls finish third in their weight classes at the Lompoc Girls Varsity Tournament.
The podium finshers were Sinai Lara (103 pounds), Malia Ortiz (113), Kylie Franson (133) and Anelly Tovalin (152)
