The Santa Barbara City College Board of Trustees has extended the college’s superintendent/president search following public forums with three finalists that took place last week.

“In keeping with our commitment to due diligence and thoughtful decision making, the Board has decided to extend the search process a few more weeks,” Board President Jonathan Abboud said during Thursday’s Board of Trustees meeting.

“Our collective intention is to allow for thorough consideration while completing this process by July 1.”

Abboud also said that the Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on Thursday, March 30 to “define the details of the extension.”

The Board has not said whether they will select one of the current finalists or if they will be considering other candidates.

The college began its search for a new superintendent/president late last year after Superintendent/President Utpal Goswami resigned from the position in July 2021.

Kindred Murillo has been serving as the interim superintendent/president since September 2021.

The finalists that the 20-person superintendent/president screening committee originally selected were: Pasadena City College Superintendent/President Erika Endrijonas; Richard Storti, executive vice chancellor of administrative services at San Mateo County Community College District; and Katrina VanderWoude, vice chancellor at Los Angeles Community College District.
