A Summerland burglary suspect and was apprehended Tuesday afternoon, after the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office shared photos earlier in the day and requested assistance from the public in locating him.
Halen Bretz, 30, of Santa Barbara was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a knife, a misdemeanor, and of burglary and dissuading a witness — both felonies. He was being held in Main Jail custody without bail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A burglary incident was reported at 9:08 a.m. Tuesday at a residence on the 800 block of Sand Point Road.
Deputies responded to a call of a male intruder with a knife who told workers at a residence not to call 9-1-1, Sheriff’s Office public information officer Raquel Zick said in a news release.
When deputies arrived at the home, the suspect had left, Zick said.
The Sheriff’s Office shared surveillance photos showing the suspect and asked for the public’s help locating him.
Sheriff’s deputies located Bretz after a community member spotted him in Carpinteria, and a witness positively identified him, Zick said.
