The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is requesting the public’s help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that fled the scene after striking a 93-year-old bicyclist in Goleta on Monday afternoon.
The collision occurred at about 1 p.m. on the 5700 block of Calle Real, sheriff’s public information officer Raquel Zick said.
The bicyclist, who was hit by a passing vehicle and knocked off his bike, suffered moderate injuries, Zick said.
He was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
“The driver of the vehicle who struck the bicyclist did not stop following the collision, and fled westbound on Calle Real toward Fairview Avenue,” Zick said.
The suspect’s car was described as a newer model, four-door, possibly dark-colored sedan.
Additional details were not released.
Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call Deputy Rockwell Ellis at 805.961.7518, or send him an email at rme4608@sbsheriff.org.
An anonymous tip can be left at 805.681.4171 or at www.sbsheriff.org/anonymoustips.html.
