After negotiating for almost two hours on Friday afternoon, Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who had barricaded himself inside a residence in Isla Vista.

The man, described as being “very aggitated,” was inside a two-story apartment on the 800 block of Camino del Sur, according to Raquel Zick, a sheriff’s public information officer.

The incident began shortly after noon when deputies responded to a “squatter” inside the apartment, Zick said.

After negotations failed to yield results, deputies shot a chemical irritant into the apartment, prompting the man to surrender, Zick said.

He was identified by Zick as Donald Cameron, 51, of Santa Barbara.

Cameron was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest, she added.

He remained in custody Friday night, with bail set at $50,000.

Some nearby apartments were evacuated, and streets in the area were shut down.
