Investigators were searching Wednesday afternoon for a man who robbed a Carpinteria retail store at gunpoint, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The robbery occurred at about 12:15 p.m. at the T-Mobile store at 1006 Casitas Pass Road.

The man reportedly was armed with a black handgun, and demanded cash from the register.

As of shortly before 2 p.m., the suspect remained at large despite an extensive search of the area by deputies, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick.

The robber was described as a Hispanic male adult wearing a red bandana, a baseball cap, a gray T-shirt and black shorts, according to emergency radio traffic.

He reportedly was last seen heading east on foot towards the Albertsons supermarket.
