Santa Maria police were searching for a suspect Friday night after a man was found fatally shot in the northwest area of the city.
Officers responded shortly before 4:30 p.m. to the 800 block of West Donovan Road for a report of gunfire in the area, according to Lt. Jesse Silva.
“Upon arrival, officers located a male adult with a fatal gunshot wound,” Silva said. “The unknown suspect(s) fled the area prior to police arrival.”
Police cordoned off the crime scene and began investigating the incident.
There was no known immediate danger to the community, police said.
The victim’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.
Donovan Road was expected to be closed for a few hours while police investigated the shooting.
The Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau is investigating this crime and is asking for the public’s assistance.
