More than 130 bowlers hit the lanes at Zodo’s Bowling and Beyond Nov. 8 for Young Leader’s Society’s United We Bowl event to benefit United Way of Santa Barbara County’s literacy programs.

At its 10th Annual Bowl-a-Thon fundraiser, United Way Young Leaders Society raised more than $8,000 — an all-time high for the event. In addition to the competition with all 24 lanes sold out, teams and individuals entered to win $1,400 value in raffle prizes, and Zodo’s donated a portion of all food and drink sales from the evening to United Way.

Sponsors included Cottage Health, Union Bank, City National Bank, Procore, and Zodo’s. Cottage Health and Union Bank were The Big Lebowski sponsors, Procore and City National Bank were The Spare sponsors, and Zodo’s was an in-kind sponsor.

“What a fun evening with United Way’s Young Leaders Society who showed their generosity and competitive spirit while raising funds to share the gift of literacy with local children and families,” said Steve Ortiz, CEO/president of United Way of Santa Barbara County.

United We Bowl was created to support the purchase of books for donation to local schools in honor of Read Across America Day. On this day in March, YLS members will visit the schools to read stories and share more about their road to success.

Young Leaders Society (YLS) was formed to provide community involvement and personal development opportunities for young professionals. The group offers members multiple avenues to become involved with United Way and community initiatives, to directly make a difference in people’s lives, and ultimately become leaders in the community.
