A teenage boy who was critically injured in a vehicle crash on July 4 in Santa Maria has died, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.

Fidel Lopez passed away four days after the early morning crash at East Donovan Road and Pepperwood Place, Sgt. Jason Zickuhr said. 

“Fidel was only 15 years old, and he was going to work to help support his family,” a GoFundMe site for the family said. “Fidel and his father had arrived just three months prior from Oaxaca to Santa Maria.”

The family is seeking financial help for funeral expenses since the boy’s body will be sent back to Oaxaca, Mexico.

The GoFundMe page had raised more than $2,100 toward the $10,000 donation as of Friday.
