The Lompoc Police Department again took part in the annual Toys for Tots event held this year on Dec. 7 at the Lompoc Airport. The 6th Annual Toys for Tots Fly’In was sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps and Rene Minjares, owner of the Barnstormers Aero Services Inc.
Officers, volunteers and Explorers with the Lompoc Police Department, along with several agencies, businesses and members of the public, participated in the seasonal event during which hundreds of toys were donated and collected. These toys and all donations collected in the Lompoc area stay in the Lompoc Valley and will benefit children in need.
The mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute them to less fortunate children at Christmas to help bring the joy of the holidays and send a message of hope.
The Fly’In is designed to promote aviation to all ages and to showcase aviation to the children who find aircraft exciting.
“It’s to set an example to businesses and community members to enhance the spirit of giving,” Minjares said.
