Jacob Snodgress ran the fifth fastest 800 meters in San Marcos track & field history and finished sixth in the invitational race at the Mt. SAC relays on Saturday.

Snodgress ran 1:54.77 for a personal best.

“Jacob really held his own in his race today,” said coach Marilyn Hantgin. “He knew if he could just stay with the pack, he would run a great time. Jacob showed that he is one of the best 800 runners in the Southern Section.

Snodgress also ran a leg on the Royals’ 4×400 relay along with Justin Hess, Jonas Strand and Julian Hicks. They ran a season best of 3:23.14.

The San Marcos girls also posted a personal best in the 4×400 relay 4:05.77. This team consisted of Ava Carter, KIala Haas, Celina Zambrano and Makenzie Fauver.

“This was by far our best race of the year so far,” said Hantgin. “It was great seeing the girls compete and push themselves each leg of the race.

San Marcos took second in the boys 1600 sprint medley. Ethan Dwelley anchored the race, splitting a 1:57.6 in the 800. Dylan Briner ran the 400 and Justin Hess and Julian Hicks each ran a 200.

“Mt. SAC Relays are always an experience to remember. There are high school, college, and professional runners all at the same meet. I’m so thankful my athletes were able to be a part of such a fun day,” said Hantgin.

The Royals will next compete at the County Championship at Santa Ynez on Saturday.

Davis Flanagin is 2nd in Triple Jump at Mt. SAC

Santa Barbara High’s Davis Flanagin took second place in the seeded triple tump at the Mt. SAC Relays with a mark of 43-2.

“That’s a great result at a big meet,” said coach Olivia Perdices. “I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do the rest of the season.”

In other results, Santa Barbara was fourth in the girls seeded 4×800 meters in 10:19.85. The team consisted of Laila Goodman, Ridley DeSoto, Lea Pynn and Mackenna Show.

“That’s the first time at a meet like this for any of these girls and the responded really well,” said Perdices

Next up is the Santa Barbara County Championships at Santa Ynez on Saturday.
