Corey Nunez and Ivan Brethowr combined for seven hits to lead a potent UCSB attack in a 13-2 rout of Minnesota at the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic in Surprise, Arizona on Sunday night.

It was the Gauchos’ second win over the Golden Gophers (0-3). They won a 9-7 game on Friday.

UCSB (2-1) finishes the season-opening event Monday against Oregon State before returning to Santa Barbara for their home opener against Oregon on Friday.

The freshman Nunez went 4 for 5 with a RBI triple and run scored. Brethowr, a sophomore transfer from Arizona State, went 3-4, scored two runs and drove in one.

Redshirt junior Jared Sundstrom belted a three-run homer in the second inning to kick off offensive assault. It was his first homer as a Gaucho,

Leo Mosby had two hits, including a two-run triple in the seventh to give the Gauchos a 7-2 lead.

The Gauchos hammered three triples and two doubles off Minnesota pitchers.

Broc Mortensen hit a two-run double in the eighth inning and had three RBI in the game.

Zander Darby had a pair of hits, including a two-run ground-rule double in the top of the ninth.

UCSB scored its 13 runs on 14 hits.

The Gauchos used seven pitchers in the game and the combined for 12 strikeouts. Reed Moring started and was lifted after after three innings. He gave up a two-run homer in the second and ended his day allowing three hits and six walks while striking out two.

Brady Huddlestun entered in the fourth, pitched two hitless innings and picked up the win. He struck out three and walked one.
