SANTA CLARA — The UCSB softball team split games on the second day of the Silicon Valley Classic, beating Northern Colorado 9-1 in five innings before falling to Santa Clara 7-0.
In the first game, the Gauchos came out strong, taking a 6-0 lead after two innngs.
Chloe Stewart, Korie Thomas and Alexa Sams scored two runs each for UCSB, and Stewart and Ashley Donaldson each added three RBI.
Starter Camryn Snyder went all five innings for the Gauchos, striking out four and allowing only one run with the help of the defense.
Shortly after Game 1 ended, the Gauchos were back on the field to take on the Broncos. Santa Clara was in control from the start, taking the 7-0 shutout.
Stewart and Sams had two hits apiece for the Gauchos, and Madelyn McNally, Daryn Siegel and Thomas had a hit apiece. Starter Ilona Sullivan went 2.2 innings and struck out two while allowing just one run.
The Gauchos, now 6-5, play one more game at the Silicon Valley Classic on Sunday, in San Jose to take on the San Jose State Spartans. First pitch will be at 10 a.m.
